at Hunter Wetlands National Park

A sanctuary for wildlife in the heart of an industrial city, Hunter Wetlands National Park is home to a range of threatened species and endangered ecological communities, as well as their more common associates. Waterbirds share the park with osprey, green and golden bell frogs, and a range of threatened bats. Diverse habitats conserved within the park include saltmarsh, swamp oak forest, freshwater wetlands and coastal rainforest communities. Ash Island is the primary destination from which to experience the natural beauty of this park. Boardwalks, walking tracks and cycle ways provide ideal opportunities to explore the wonders of the intertidal world. Wetlands Environmental Education Centre on 02 4955 8673.
